Dual Language Education Basics

1.5 hour presentation

The 1-1.5 hour presentation is an overview for leadership in a district or school considering the implementation of a DL program.  Participants will leave with a foundational knowledge of DLE and an understanding of the planning and commitment required to build a successful program.

This will include:

  • What are English vs bilingual language instruction educational programs?
  • What research says are the benefits and challenges of Dual Language Education?
  • Federal and State laws relating to Dual Language Education
  • What is a dual language program?
    • Definition, Dual Language program goals, Non-Negotiables
    • Three core goals dual language education: a) grade level academic achievement, b) bilingualism and biliteracy, achievement and c) sociocultural competence
  • Dual Language Implementation options
    • Program models and design, literacy development, staffing option, language allocation
  • Building the foundation
